IS IT REALLY GOLD?

I am often given a parcel of jewellery to assess. The first thing I do is to check the gold weight separating 9ct from 18ct sometimes there is 10 or 15 carat. Occasionally I find an item that is not stamped with that carat weight! This does not mean that it is not of value!!
The solution is to do a simple test to check what Gold weight it is.
